On May 28th 2013 at 7:30 PM Nassau officers assisted Schodack Police with a property damage car crash on Route 20 just outside the Village. The dispatcher stated a deer was struck by a car and was still in traffic. While en route the dispatcher advised that the operator of the vehicle was not hurt. Nassau officers were first to arrive on the scene and discovered the deceased doe that was struck by the vehicle. Next to the doe was a fawn that was very much alive trying to stand up! The crash caused the doe to birth the fawn prematurely. Nassau officers took the fawn out of the roadway and contacted the animal control officer. The fawn was taken to a wild animal rehabilitation center in Chatham by the animal control officer.
